I have scoured the supermarket aisles for health or granola bars like a kid looking for goodies from a burst Pinata! These healthy bites have found temporary homes in my office bag, hubby’s car and kiddie lunch boxes.They have been out on family outings and long journeys. They have been devoured post-workout and in those ‘craving-a -snack-right now’ moments! And why not? They are convenient to carry, no mess and full of wholesome goodness.
But the store bought bars just don’t cut the ice with me anymore. With a mile-long ingredient list – some unpronounceable ones (tad scary, that is!) , added preservatives, flavors and colors – even the best brands don’t make the mark as far as natural, wholesome goodness is concerned.
So I decide to take matters in my own hands – with an all natural, super healthy,chewy, easy to make and delicious home made health bar!
100% NATURAL, WHOLESOME HEALTH BARS
Preparation Time : 30 minutes
Cooking Time : 12-15 minutes
Yields : 8 Bars
- Rolled Oats – 1 cup
- Roughly chopped Almonds – 1/4 cup
- Roughly chopped Walnuts – 1/4 cup
- Raisins – 1 tablespoon
- Chopped dates – 1 tablespoon
- Seed Mix (Sesame, Pumpkin, Sunflower, Ground Flax) – 1/4 cup
- Almond Butter – 3/4 cup (Recipe ahead)
- Natural Brown Sugar – 2 tablespoons
- Apple juice – 1/4 cup
- Honey (optional) – 1 tablespoon

Step 1 Make Almond Butter
Process raw almonds in a powerful blender/mixer , stopping every 30 seconds to scrape the inside back in and to add a dash of coconut oil/ almond oil ,aiding the blending process. The butter will be yielded after about 15 minutes of processing.

Step 2 Mix the dry ingredients together – Oats, Nuts, Seeds, Raisins and Dates
Step 3 Mix the wet ingredients – Almond butter, Apple juice, Honey (optional), Brown sugar
Step 4 Add the wet to the dry mix and mix thorougly so that the entire mixture is evenly coated and is of a slightly sticky consistency.
Step 5 Grease a shallow baking dish and lay the mixture evenly , to about an inch thick. Pat down and smoothen from top.
Step 6 Pop the dish in the preheated oven and bake for around 12-15 minutes, keeping a close watch. Remove from oven once the mix looks a golden brown and the sides are a little dark brown.
Step 7 Allow the granola to cool COMPLETELY before cutting into small bars / squares. The bars can be stored in a cool, dry airtight jar for up to about a week.
