5 Wellness+Beauty Trends in 2018

India has been synonymous with Wellness , way before the word took on its chic, Turmeric Latté cool vibes. Ayurveda, yoga, meditation, herbs & spices, made -from-scratch foods, alternative grains, a tradition of fasting and natural ingredient approach to beauty – we rocked it centuries back.

More recently, in its cooler -trendier avataar ,the wellness resurgence belonged to Organic Foods, Farmer’s Markets, Cold Pressed Juices, Local -Seasonal-Fresh Restaurant trends, Superfood Smoothies , Athleisure making a head-start and a Fitness explosion.

On the clean beauty front, we have seen  a slow and sure rise of under the radar beauty brands – artisan, small batch, plant-based brands that combine safe, natural (many certified organic) ingredients with efficacy, all delivered in feel-well packaging ( finally we are going beyond the image of scrappily put together, dubious looking ‘natural’ creams and soaps) ; facial oils added to beauty routines ; sustainability & ingredient transparency.

At Naturally Lush, we move into a space where beauty blooms from an inside-out feel good. Investing in reaching a balance, that radiates as a beautiful glow. Its beauty that stems from mindful self-care & self-love. An inside-out approach. A sense of calm and wellbeing that manifests as a physical glow. Nourishing whole foods, cleansing work-outs for body & mind and non-toxic beauty regimens form the three pillars. We move into a space where Wellness meets Beauty.

Here’s 5 #WellnessMeetsBeauty trends to watch out for in 2018.

/ Slow Beauty

Japanese tenets of beauty are predicted to take over from the multi-tiered Korean approach. “Classic aesthetic Japanese principles of kanso, shibui and seijaku – simplicity, understated beauty and energised calm, respectively – will come to the fore in beauty offerings that come out of the country.” – Vogue

Keep it simple , minimal and powerful. Innocent, safe ingredients and multi-tasking products, like this Skin Tint  Ritualise. Think royalty of the yore. Slow, languorous, candle-lit baths. A morning and bed-time ritual. Maybe a spritz of calming Lavender essential oil on your pillow and a cup of Chamomile tea or an Almond Milk Turmeric Latte. A 5-minute winding down Yoga routine or Journaling to calm frazzled day time nerves for sound, quality sleep.

Heal and thrive within to glow from the outside.

/ Breathwork

Ever notice the glow on practitioners of Yoga. Much can be attributed to its mindful breathing techniques and practices. When we breathe deep and correct , we both energise and calm ourselves, reaching a state of clarity & balance within. It also sends a rush of oxygen to our cells, reducing stress and revitalising.

Moving into the next level of feeling well and energised, the focus in 2018 is increasingly on mindful breathing , the genesis of which is Pranayama. Here’s a simple Breathwork for Grounding + Clarity .Also, take a look at some audio guidance at The Breathing Tree website, books at  Breathwork Technique Resources or closer home, take personal guidance from Apoorva Gupta Jalan at In.Breath

/ Moringa

Growing in our backyard, Moringa is the superfood of 2018. The derivatives from this  ‘Tree of Life’ or the ‘Drumstick Tree’ with their ultra – moisturizing, nourishing and super anti-oxidant power makes it the rightful contender for top natural beauty trend.

Moringa  has one of the highest antioxidant contents of any food. With an ORAC value of 157,000, it has 6x the antioxidants of goji berries and comparable levels to the antioxidant powerhouse matcha. Antioxidants are essential for protecting, repairing and preventing cell damage, minimising the ageing process of the skin in the long-term. They help counteract oxidative stress and the effects of free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that damage collagen causing skin dryness, fine lines, wrinkles and premature ageing.

In other words, be ready for Moringa infused everything. Take as a supplement (do check with your physician before adding any supplement to your routine), sprinkle as  powder in Smoothies, Soups and Salads , or brew a cup of Moringa Tea. Find some more recipes here.

Also, don’t miss out on the hugely skin & hair nourishing goodness of Moringa in beauty oils, soaps , shampoos and skin care products.

/Natural Deodorants

Conventional deodorants essentially prevent odor by blocking sweat glands and preventing prespiration. Aluminium, Pthanlates, Parabens and Fragrance are the bad guys in these deodorants and research is continually pointing at the potential health hazards. The world is waking up to natural and safe alternatives that are effective as well. Sweat by Kayla Itsines

Yoga International

‘By getting your heart pumping and increasing circulation your skin receives a delicious dose of oxygenated blood that boosts detoxification and cell renewal. Jumping on the treadmill or cross trainer for 30 minutes can be an instant way to blow off tension by boosting levels of soothing brain chemicals like serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. What’s fascinating, though, is that exercise may actually work on a cellular level to reverse the toll of stress on our ageing process.’ – http://www.womenshealthandfitness.com.au
